A new study has found that men taking the erectile dysfunction drug Viagra are at an increased risk of developing heart problems.
The researchers said a study of men taking the drug found that one-third had a heart condition, another was diagnosed with a type of heart disease called angina, and one had a condition known as heart bypass disease.
The findings were reported in the journalChest, with the journalCirculation reporting that the increased risk is similar to that found in the general population.
The new research was published online July 10 in theJournal of the American Heart Association. It is the first of more than a dozen studies that examined the long-term effects of erectile dysfunction drugs on men's health.
The researchers, led by Prof. Dr. Scott C. Taylor of Johns Hopkins University, at first conducted the study, which was funded by Pfizer Inc., a New Jersey company that manufactures Viagra.
Viagra, which is sold under the brand name Levitra, is also a PDE5 inhibitor. The researchers also found that men taking Viagra had a higher risk of a number of common heart conditions, including heart attack, arrhythmia, and stroke.
In addition, Viagra users were also about to develop a heart attack, heart failure, and stroke.
Researchers said the results may not entirely be causation. Viagra, which is available under a different brand name, is not a PDE5 inhibitor. It works by relaxing the muscles in the penis, allowing for increased blood flow when sexually stimulated.
The researchers also said there are other ways to treat erectile dysfunction.
In the study, men who took Viagra were twice as likely to have a heart attack, six times as likely to have a stroke, and six times as likely to have a heart condition.
Viagra is the brand name for sildenafil, the active ingredient in the erectile dysfunction drug Levitra. It is sold under a different brand name, Revatio, and is used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (high blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs) and is used to treat erectile dysfunction.
A clinical trial conducted in 1998 by Pfizer Inc., found that Viagra significantly lowered the levels of a protein that helps protect the penis from blood clots.
The scientists said that this effect is not caused by the drug itself but may be the result of an underlying condition, such as diabetes.
Viagra is not recommended for use in children or women.
In June, the US Food and Drug Administration issued a warning that the erectile dysfunction drug could cause serious side effects in men taking nitrates, such as nitroglycerin. (See.)
A separate study published in thefound that men taking nitrates for chest pain were more likely to develop angina, a heart condition known as an angina.
In one study, the researchers found that the drug was also associated with an increased risk of developing heart attacks.
A third study of men taking the drug, published May 13 in, also found an increased risk.
The researchers also said that men taking Viagra were twice as likely to have a heart condition, six times as likely to develop angina, six times as likely to develop angina, and six times as likely to develop angina.
The researchers said that men taking Viagra may not be aware of the increased risk and should discuss it with their doctor before taking the medication.
The researchers said that Viagra should not be taken for more than a year and should not be used by men who are experiencing erectile dysfunction.
Taylor, M. D., is an associate professor at the University of South Carolina. He also runs the company'sHeart and Blood Pressureprogram.

The first of a two-part series on the history of the pharmaceutical industry in the early 1990s will air today,When It Comes to Viagra. A new documentary, called “The Evolution of Viagra” will be airing in the United States on Saturday, Oct. 15, and will feature interviews with a variety of industry leaders and their impact on the industry. (In the US, Viagra has been dubbed “the first-ever erectile dysfunction pill”.)
In the book, “How Viagra Changed the Lives of Men in the United States”, journalist Sarah Thompson-Berman, interviews drug company executives and researchers at the World Drug Company and Pfizer, who are leading the research project.
“I’m going to show you how Pfizer came to be so successful,” she says, “in the late 1970s and early 1980s, and how the drug industry has changed the lives of so many of us. So much so that, I guess it was a time when men weren’t just going to the doctor, but they were going to go to work. So, I guess this book is a very important thing to do. And it’s important because it’s a very important book.”
The first episode of the documentary, which is about Viagra, starts with Thompson-Berman, who says the drug industry is “very active” in the production of Viagra, and that “the companies that are currently producing Viagra are not producing it for them. They’re producing it for Pfizer and not Pfizer.”
Thompson-Berman says Pfizer is the first pharmaceutical company to file for the patent for Viagra. She says the company’s strategy is to make the drug work as well as it can, but it hasn’t been enough.
“It’s a very important project,” she says, “to make sure that what’s going to get approved by the U. S. Food and Drug Administration is right. It’s a very important project. So, I think it’s a very important project.”
The book is set in the 1990s and includes interviews with executives from Pfizer and the pharmaceutical industry. It will be translated into seven languages.
